STL athletes, coaches, and parents celebrated all the successes of 2019 at our annual awards banquet. We congratulate all the 2019 award winners:

2019 Youth Nationals, Sydney, NS - August 9-11,2019

It was a very successful year for STL at the Youth Nationals held in Sydney, Nova Scotia. It was actually one of our best years ever based on the results, and a great way to wrap up the 2019 outdoor season with a total of 7 medals earned by STL athletes. Five medals were achieved in STL colours and 2 by one of our athletes competing on the Ontario Legion team. We also had six top 8 finishes, a number of PB’s, and 3 new Club records.

Tayah Desousa captured the Silver medal in the U18 Girls 100m Hurdles with a time of 14.70

Michael Roth was our STL athlete representing Ontario at this meet. He came home with a team Gold medal as a member of the Ontario 4 x 400, and an individual Bronze medal in the U18 boys 400m with a new PB of 48.69, also a new club record.

Hallee Knelsen ran for the Bronze medal in U18 girls 800m in very windy conditions, with a time of 2:09.79 Hallee also placed 4th in the 1500m with a new PB and new club record of 4:35.42

AJ Stanat threw for a Bronze medal in the U18 boys Shot Put with a new PB of 14.67m. He also placed 6th in Discus with a throw of 43.11m

Mason Basson came home with 2 Bronze medals. Individually, he earned the Bronze in the U16 boys 1200m with a time of 3:18.08 He also placed 4th in the 800m with 2:02.97

STL´s final Bronze medal came from our U16 boys in the Sprint Medley relay. The team of Mason Basson (400m), Fox Gray (200m), Vince Moore (200m), and Harrison Belanger (800m) had a combined effort for a new Club record of 3:48.49

Other top 8 performances were achieved by:

  • Fox Gray placing 8th in the U16 boys 300m with a time of 38.13
  • Vince Moore placing 7th in the U16 boys 800m with a new PB
  • Harrison Belanger placing 8th in the U16 boys 800m and 8th in 1200m

U14, U16, U18 AO Championships, Windsor, ON - August 2-4,2019

Great results at the U14, U16 & U18 AO Championships in Windsor for the STL team!

Our young athletes captured 13 medals, had 8 new Club records (NCR), one new Provincial and Meet record and some very impressive personal bests (PB´s) throughout the competition in all areas of our sport (Throws, Jumps, Sprints and Distance).

Leading the way was Lexi Stanat by capturing the Gold medal in the U14 Girls Javelin with a personal best (29.89m) and a new Club record. A silver medal in Discus (37.37m) and Shot Put (10.24m) also NPB's & NCR.

In the U16 boys category, Mason Basson won the silver medal in the 1200m with a time of (3:18.03) and a bronze medal in the 800m (1:59.54) both times are NPB's and a NCR.

Michael Roth had a Gold medal in the U18 boys 400m with a very impressive time of (48.90) marking a new PB and a NCR. He also captured the Bronze medal in the 200m (22.24) and he placed 4th. in the 100m (11.12)

Hallee Knelsen had an amazing weekend at this championships! She improved her Personal best by 7 sec in the 1500m while capturing the Silver medal in the process running a NCR of (4:36.64). A new PB and NCR also in the 800m with the time of (2:09.54) and a Bronze medal in a very tight finish, showing great form going in to next weeks National youth Championships.

Tayah Desousa improved her own CR and her PB in the 100m Hurdles by winning the Silver medal with an impressive time of 14.22. She also placed 4th. in the Long jump (5.14m).

AJ Stanat captured the Bronze in the Boys Shot Put with a PB throw of 14.62m. He also placed 6th in the Hammer throw (41.78m) and 6th in Discus Throw with (43.57m).

A Bronze medal for Justin Cole and a new PB while competing in the boys 2000mS/C with a time of 7:19.99. He also competed in the 3000m when he improved his personal best by 16 sec.

A new Provincial and Meet record and a Gold medal in the process in the Sprint Medley relay in the girls U18 category. Our team of Kyra Vellinga, Tayah Desousa, Earen Klassen and Hallee Knelsen ran an impressive time in that event of (3:06.68).

AO Bantam U14, Midget U16, Junior U20 Indoor Championships, North York, ON - March 2-3, 2019

Last meet of the season for STL, and what a meet we had! Some great results from our young athletes while competing at AO U14,U16 & U20 Championships in Toronto over the weekend.

Leading the way in medal haul it was Mason Basson by winning the silver medal in the 800m U16 boys and breaking a 21 year old club record in the process with the time of 2:06.42. Bronze medal in the 1200m, also with a new club record 3:27.01. Then he joined his relay teammates to win two Gold medals in the 4 x 200m relay (1:40.62) and in the Sprint Medley relay (4:03.66).

Dylen Belanger had a great meet by winning gold in the U16 boys 60m Hurdles with a new personal best (PB) and a NCR of 8.75. He also placed 5th overall in the 300m with NPB & NCR (39.12), a NPB & NCR in the 200m (24.66) and 2 gold medals with STL´s relay teams.

Besides the two Gold medals he captured with the relay teams, Fox Gray had a NPB and tied the CR in the 60m of 7.65, he also had a NPB in the 200m (24.89).

Vince Moore had an exceptional meet also by placing 8th in the 800m U16 boys, with a very respectable time of 2:10.58 and a NPB, he also placed 9th in the 1200m with a time of 3:31.50 also breaking the club record. He was also a member of the double Gold medal winning relay teams.

Hayden Bell surprised himself by winning the Bronze medal by running a new PB in the U20 men 60m Hurdles with a time of 8.66. He also won a Bronze medal in the High Jump by clearing 1.85m which is a seasonal best.

An amazing accomplishment by Tayah Desousa while competing in a higher category of U20, she captured the Bronze medal in the 60m high Hurdles (33”) with an impressive time of 9.15. She also placed 6th in the U20 women's High Jump (1.50m).

Hallee Knelsen placed 6th in the 800m U20 category with a NPB and a NCR of 2:16.11, she was also 12th in the 1500m with a time of 4:55.30. A new personal best for Michael Roth and a NCR in the 400m with the time of 51.57 placing at the 7th spot. He also placed 6th. in the 200m with the time of 24.14. Kyra Vellinga marking a NPB in the 400m (1:02.36). Earen Klassen had 2 NBP´s in the 400m (1:03.70) and 200m (28.04).

The relay team of Tayah Desousa, Earen Klassen, Kyra Vellinga & Halle Knelsen captured the Gold medal in the women´s U20 Sprint Medley Relay with a NCR of 4:14.41. Tayah, Earen, Lily Francis and Kyra placed 5th.with a NCR in the 4 x 200m relay with a time of 1:50.03.

Lily Francis had also a NPB in the 60m Hurdles (10.06) running in the U20 category. A new personal best for Claireese Coffey in girls U16 Triple Jump (9.41m) and a PB in the Long jump (4.33m). Josh McCandless had a new PB in the 200m by improving it by a whole second to 27.61. New personal best from Justin Cole in the 1500m (5:07.77). Claire Graig had also new PB in the 1500m (5:22.56).

2019 AO U18 and Open Championships, Toronto, ON - February 9-10, 2019

Great performances from our Youth athletes at the AO U18 and Open Indoor Championships held at York University over the weekend. Triple gold medalist Halle Knelsen lead the way by winning the 1500m (4:54.30) and the 800m (2:17.25) in the Girls U18 category with new personal bests (PB´s) and new club records (NCR) and a Gold medal with the relay team. Quadruple medal winning athlete Michael Roth came back with 2 silver medals in the Boys U18 200m (23.13) & 400m (52.00) with NPB and a NCR in the 400m, a gold and a bronze in the relays.

Our U18 Girls Relay team of Tayah Desousa, Earen Klassen, Kyra Vellinga & Halle Knelsen won the Gold medal in the Sprint Medley Relay (SMR) with an impressive performance. The same for our U18 boys relay team of Dylen Bellanger, Fox Gray, Michael Roth and Mason Basson by winning the gold in the SMR. A Bronze medal for our U18 boys team of Dylen Belanger, Fox Gray, Vincent Moore and Michael Roth in the 4 x 200m relay. New Indoor Club Record from Tayah Desousa in the girls U18 Long Jump (5.07m) placing 4th. and with NPB in the 60m sprint (8.30). A Silver medal for Rachael DeZwart in the Open Women HJ.

A NPB and a NCR (from 1994) in the 60mHurdles (8.82) from Dylen Belanger while competing with the U16 team Ontario colors at the Dual meet vs Quebec. Dylen also had a NPB and NCR in the 200m (24.81). A NPB NCR U16 in the 60m (7.70) from Fox Gray and a PB in the 200m (24.94).

Personal bests from Kyra Vellinga 200m (27.27) and 400m (1:02.44). NPB for Earen Klassen in the 200m (28.75 ) & 400m (1:04.84), Masson Basson in the 400m (55.94) and 800m (2:09.13), Vincent Moore in the 400m (58.07) and 800m (2:12.74), Joshua McCandless in the 60m (8.42), Clair Graig 3 sec. PB in the 1500m (5:26.70), Justin Cole in the 800m (2:29.52) and 1500m by 6 sec. PB (5:07.85).
