Ontario Trillium Foundation

St. Thomas Legion Track & Field would like to thank the Ontario Trillium Foundation for their continued support of our sport and the community that we serve.

Ontario Trillium Foundation

In June 2012, the OTF approved a grant to STL for $30,000 for new and replacement equipment. This most recent grant will compliment the recent upgrades to STL's home training facility at Parkside Collegiate. Over the past 2-3 years there has been extensive work to repair and improve the track facility including:

  • complete resurfacing of the track and all runways
  • expansion of the high jump apron
  • additional 2 sprint lanes resulting in an 8 lane straightway
  • new horizontal sand pits
  • new shot put circle
  • new equipment shed with concrete ramp to track and direct gate access.

The grant money was designated for increasing STL´s hurdle inventory for 8 lane competition, replacing worn pole vault equipment, and purchasing new equipment for the Junior Development programs to meet the demands of the growing community interest for these younger athlete programs.

STL was successful in their efforts to secure more funding from OTF to improve our equipment storage facility. The existing shed is over 40 years old and in desperate need of replacement. Over the past 35 years we have benefitted from the use of this storage facility but we have long since outgrown it´s use and size. With the upcoming upgrades to Parkside´s track facility, the timing was right for replacing the shed with an improved, larger structure. This new shed will properly house our existing inventory as well as provide increased capacity for new equipment needed for greater community use. The OTF grant for $44,000 is designated for upgrades including: a new concrete floor, increased height of structure and doorway clearance to better accommodate larger equipment, and extended life of the shed with a new roof and aluminum siding. This project will further support the ongoing work to improve the entire facility to better meet the needs of our sporting community.

October 2006

STL is pleased to announce the receipt of a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) to purchase new equipment. With the $19,400 received from OTF, the club will be able to purchase a new complete high jump set, new adjustable steeplechase barriers, and new starting blocks to replace our current well-used inventory. We would also like to thank Deborah McMullan and Sylvia Stantsos for their time and efforts to put this grant application together for STL. We are excited to begin to work with the OTF and look forward to planning some future projects and development with their support.

Many thanks to the OTF for their generous support of our club and community.
